Vernay and Michelisz on pole for Races 2 and 3 at the Hungaroring

By only eight thousandths of a second, the BRC driver was ahead of Esteban Guerrieri (Honda). “To be honest, it was very hard. The track got slower in Q3, I expected to finish fourth or fifth. The funny thing is that I told the fans during the autograph session that I really didn't expect a pole!

I was a little lucky, because I think our Hyundai is not the fastest in the field”, explains the 2017 WTCC vice-champion. On the second row, we find Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co), third, 40 thousandths behind “Norbi”. “I was unlucky yesterday in Race 1 (abandonment due to mechanical problem. Editor’s note), so it's a good way to catch up, he is satisfied.

“We had great pace in Q2, but maybe I chose my place wrong for Q3. I hope to pass the two men in front of me at the start”, confides the Alsatian.

Good pick for Jean Karl Vernay (Audi). The Lyonnais took pole position for Race 2 thanks to the reverse grid principle. The Team WRT driver preserved the 10th best time in Q2, and will however have to start from this place in Race 3.

The days follow each other and are not the same for Yvan muller (Lynk & Co). The outgoing vice-champion, on the podium of Race 1 on Saturday, will only start 15th in the Sunday races, behind Aurelien Panis (Cupra, 14th).

“I don’t know what happened. I have no explanation, admitted the four-time WTCC champion as he got out of the car. The balance wasn't ideal, but it's never perfect anyway. I need to verify the data before saying anything else. »

Among the good surprises of this session, let us note the presence of the two Cupras from the PWR Racing team for the 2018 TCR Europe champion Mikel Azcona (6th) and the Swede Daniel Haglöf (9th). On the other hand, his compatriot Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen) returned to the second half of the table.

Race 2 will start at 15:30 p.m. and Race 3 at 17 p.m.
