William Byron takes Daytona 500 pole

Moins en vue que les Toyota Camry et les Ford Fusion l’an passé pour leur première année en Nascar Cup Series, the Chevrolet Camaros did not miss their start to the 2019 season.

The qualifications of the Daytona 500 (Florida), which will open the Cup Series campaign this weekend, have indeed seen William byron and Alex Bowman (respectively aligned with the No. 24 and No. 88 Chevys from Rick Hendrick's team) monopolize the first row.

For his second season in the legendary car No. 24 (former mount of Jeff Gordon), Byron, 2017 Xfinity Series champion, completed his best lap in 46″319, 36 thousandths ahead of Bowman.

Hendrick Motorsports also places its two other Camaros in the top 4 as Jimmie Johnson (winner of the Clash last night) and Chase Elliott finished in the same tenth as Byron. The latter also offers its 700th pole to Chevrolet in the Nascar Cup Series.

Daniel Hemric (Chevrolet – Richard Childress Racing) completes the top 5 of the session ahead of the Ford Mustang of 2018 champion Joey Logano (Team Penske) and the Toyota Camry – Joe Gibbs Racing of Martin Truex Jr.

If Byron and Bowman are assured of their places on the grid for Sunday's event, the next 38 positions will be determined by the two Duels on Thursday evening.
