WTCC – Nasser Al-Attiyah will debut in Qatar

On the occasion of the Qatari round of the WTCC on the Losail International Circuit track, which will be contested on November 26 and 27 at night, the French Hugo Valente and John Filippi will be joined in the racing fields by Nasser Al-Attiyah, who will make his debut in the discipline.

Engaged on a Chevrolet Cruze TC1, the 44-year-old pilot will notably find Sébastien Loeb, rubbed shoulders in WRC. “It will be a true honor for me to represent my country, Qatar, as we host the WTCC for the first time. Qatar successfully organized events MotoGP for several years and having an FIA World Championship will only strengthen the country's reputation as a sporting destination. »

Accustomed to events in rally and in rally-raid, (winner at the Dakar in 2011 and 2015, WRC-2 champion in 2014, and title holder in the Middle East Rally Championship), Nasser Al-Attiyah will have to get used to a driving style which is not his unfamiliar. “I'm going to have a lot to learn because I haven't done a lot of circuit racing and never in a front-wheel drive car.

Of course I want to be competitive, but my goals will be different from my rivals: I am an ambassador for motorsport in the Middle East and I will do everything possible to further highlight Qatar on the motorsport map. »
