Author of the two poles earlier in the morning, Esteban Masson won the first race of the weekend at Magny-Cours. Starting from the front position, the Franco-Canadian was not bothered when the lights went out, his front row partner Alessandro Giusti having had some difficulty getting off the ground. As a result, it was Hugh Barter who moved into second position at the first corner.

Despite the appearance of a Safety Car after an accident in Adelaide caused by young debutant Enzo Peugeot in the first loops (which was penalized by 30 seconds), Esteban Masson managed the restart perfectly and especially the pressure put on by the Australian Hugh Barter just behind to keep the lead until the end. But the end of the race was marked by an accident involving Daniel Ligier and Macéo Capietto two laps from the finish.

Capietto finally ranked 4th

The first city actually spun off after Chateaux d'Eau and brought Capietto down with it. Fortunately for the man who was until then co-leader of the championship, the waved red flag allowed him to be classified 4th, the place he occupied during the previous round. For causing the red flag, Daniel Ligier was disqualified. Alessandro Giusti took the opportunity to close the podium.

Thanks to the twelve points for fourth place, Capietto limits the damage to the 27 points collected this Saturday by his rival Esteban Masson. Even though in the accident, its tires were very damaged. The rest of the weekend could be difficult, with him having to put on the left rear tire of Castellet. Regardless, Esteban Masson is now 15 points ahead of his rival. But as a reminder, he must score 41 points over the entire weekend to be eligible for the title in the event that he scores more than Macéo. Author of an early start, Elliott Vayron received a 30-second penalty. Pierre-Alexandre Provost will start from pole on Sunday in Race 2.
