Baguette: “First the title, then we’ll see”

Bertrand, your weekend at Le Mans went particularly well. You were fast from the collective tests and that continued throughout the weekend.

In fact, we started very well on Friday. I had worn tires and I was really fast. On the other hand, during qualifying, it was a little more difficult. I finished seventh in my qualifying group and I was theoretically eliminated (only the first six in each group are qualified for the SuperPole, editor's note). Fortunately, the stewards realized that Dani Clos had cut the chicane twice, and he was demoted.

During the SuperPole, I had a much more competitive car. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake in my fast lap and finished with the sixth time when I could have aimed for third.

And then during both races, you negotiated the start well each time.

In race 1, it's true that I got off to a good start and took the lead from the first corner. Afterwards, the car was perfect and I was able to attack to finish first. In race 2, I only started in sixth position but once again I got off to a good start which allowed me to be in second position at the first corner. Afterwards the team made a very good refueling stop and my car was once again perfect, which allowed me to take off.

You also take the lead in the championship even though you were only third before arriving in France?

It's really super. In the championship I arrived 8 points behind and I now have a 19 point lead! This allows me to approach the last three races with a little more serenity.

After having acquired your first two victories of the season at Le Mans and taking the lead in the general classification, you can't aim for anything other than the title?

It’s certain that this is the objective that we have set ourselves since the start of the season. Now we will be able to approach the last three meetings in a different way. We won't have to aim for victory on every circuit but I can afford to finish second or third and not take excessive risks.

Do you already have an idea of what you will do next season if you win the title?

My priority objective is above all to secure the title. Once this one is in hand, perhaps other doors will open?
