Bourdais: “Excellent weekend”

For Sébastien Bourdais, the record almost cannot be better. Of the six “points” races contested, the Frenchman won one (Monza) and reached the podium three more times, with two second places (Estoril, Jarama) and a third place (Monza). Over all three weekends, the Frenchman is the driver with the most points. To top it off, the Sevilla FC driver qualified for the two planned super finals, in Estoril (victory) and Jarama (second).

This Sunday, the Spanish races have never seen Sébastien Bourdais far from the lead. At "home", the Sevilla FC driver showed himself, was fast, but lacked a bit of success to win, finishing second in the first race and the super final, and sixth in the second race.

Starting on pole in the first event, the Frenchman seemed well on his way to winning before losing ground, spinning out and having to hand over control to Yelmer Buurman (Anderlecht). “ We degraded the rear tires faster than expected, comments the Frenchman. Which explains my spin before the pit stop. Then, Buurman took the lead after his refueling. He was faster than us anyway and it would have been difficult to keep him behind. »

Finally second, the Frenchman therefore started from 17th place during the second race, due to the reverse grid principle. But the accident of Esteban Guerrieri (Olympiakos) and Carlos van Dam (PSV) changed the situation. “ I took advantage of the accident at the first corner to find myself 6th. I had moved up to 4th when I was surprised by my brakes blocking at the right front. Fortunately, I didn?t hit and I was able to finish 6th »

Author of two good results, the Frenchman is one of the six best drivers and qualifies for the super final. Once again, Manceau has the opportunity to stand out. “ In the Super Final, I again encountered the same brake problem at the end of the line while I was in the lead. I can't contain Buurman who passes and escapes. » Despite these frustrations, Sébastien Bourdais leaves Jarama with good results, concluding half a season where he was constantly at the forefront. “ It is nevertheless less of an excellent weekend which rounds off a great series of successes for FC Sevilla and the Reid Motorsport team. », concludes the Frenchman.
