Race 1: Vesti wins, Sargeant catches up with Piastri

Frédérik Vesti (Prema) won race 1 of the Tuscan Grand Prix this Saturday at Mugello. The Danish driver emerged victorious in a mano-a-mano with Jake Hughes (HWA Racelab) to win at the end of the race. The two men were ahead Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix), author of his 7th podium.

The Frenchman also had another great performance in the championship. With one race remaining, the ART Grand Prix driver is nine points behind the leading duo Prema Oscar piastri et Logan sargeant. Starting 7th this Saturday, the native of Grasse made another comeback, claiming the scalp of Sargeant and Zendeli, the pole sitter, at the end of the race.

For his part, Oscar Piastri had an infuriating race. Starting in 16th position, Piastri was aiming for points to secure a good position on the grid on Sunday. But the Aussie was unable to gain places at the start. The Australian certainly even finished in the most annoying place, 11th.

Embarking on a comeback, the Aussie swallowed up Peroni, Hauger, Verschoor and Doohan, in that order, but he was unable to get rid of Liam Lawson (Hitech) to take pole on the reverse grid. He therefore sees Logan Sargeant, 6th this Saturday, getting back into the championship.

With one race remaining, the two men are tied. But the American will have the advantage of starting 5th on Sunday, compared to 11th for Piastri. Watch out for Théo Pourchaire, who will start in 8th position.
