Day of firsts on the side of Red Bull Ring in Austria. After Isack Hadjar in F3, it was Fredrik Vesti (ART Grand Prix) who won his first career pole position, in F2 this time.

However, Frederik Vesti was far from being the big favorite in the qualifying session on the Styrian track. At the forefront, drivers like Felipe Drugovich (MP Motorsport), Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) or even Jack Doohan (Virtuosi) were more anticipated. But it was the Dane who ultimately stole the show.

Setting off again for a final push, Frederik Vesti moved into the (provisional) leader's chair 5 minutes from time with a lap in 1'14″123. Despite the numerous improvements, the Scandinavian held on to his 1st position while waiting for Ayumu Iwasa (DAMS), in advance after the 2nd sector, to complete his attempt. Despite his advantage, the Japanese was unable to beat the Dane's mark, giving him the first pole position of his F2 career. Under the checkerboard, he was ultimately ahead of Jüri Vips (Hitech GP), Logan sargeant (Pug).

Bad deal for Pourchaire

Cited among the contenders for pole position, Théo Pourchaire was never in his element this Friday. Lagging behind his comrades, the Grassois was unable to fight for pole position at Spielberg. Forced to return to his pit even before the end of the session timer, the Sauber Academy protégé could not do better than 9th. A blessing in disguise since he will be able to claim victory in the Sprint Race this Saturday starting from the 1st row. For Sunday, the Frenchman can still claim to come back on a circuit prone to overtaking and thus hope to finish the championship leader Felipe Drugovich, 5th on the grid.
