This is what we call a very indecisive session. After a start in the Belgian rain and an interruption of a few minutes following the exit of the track of Jak Crawford (Prema), it was Caio Collet (MP Motorsport) who did the best by winning his 1st pole position for the 2022 season.

After swapping rain tires for slicks, the drivers continued to drop the times in the last 15 minutes of these qualifications. In turn, Isack Hadjar (Hitech GP), Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix), Zane Maloney (Tridentà and Roman Stanek (Trident) occupied first place on the timesheet but it was ultimately Caio Collet who won the battle for pole position.

Following on from his good Hungarian weekend, the Brazilian posted a lap of 2'11"289 in the final moments of the session to dislodge Zane Maloney from 1st place even though he had a lead of more than 4 tenths. He therefore climbed to the top with a margin of 2 tenths over the man from Barbados while the surprising Francesco Pizzi (Charouz) entered the Top 3 just ahead of Oliver Goethe (Campos) and Roman Stanek.

Hard blow for Hadjar and Martins

Tied on points in the championship (104 each), Isack Hadjar and Victor Martins had a difficult session. Once at the forefront, the two Tricolores were then unable to keep up with the pace of improvement. While the first city was forced to immobilize its car at the exit of the Source, the second encountered traffic in the last sector, thus losing a lot of time. Misfortunes which relegated the two men to 23rd and 24th positions, more than 2″5 behind Caio Collet. Luckily, their main pursuer in the championship, Arthur Leclerc (Prema), was never able to put all the elements end to end, settling for barely 20th time. They know what they have to do now: go back up.
