Race 1: Colombo wins in the rain, Martins and Collet put on a show

We thought the race would never take place. Initially scheduled for 10:05 a.m., this first match of the weekend was initially postponed by twenty-five minutes due to the impossibility for the rescue helicopter to take off. After three training laps, the twenty-nine drivers present on the track were shown a red flag and had to return to the pit lane. It was finally at 11:05 a.m., after two laps under a safety car, that the real start was given.

The only driver to have the track clear in front of him, without the slightest splash of water, Lorenzo Colombo (Campos) perfectly mastered his subject, winning alone without having to defend his position. He beat the two Hitech single-seaters of Jak Crawford and Roman Stanek. For his part, Victor Martins (MP Motorsport) is the one who gained the most positions in the top 12. Starting 11th thanks to his second place in qualifying, the Frenchman quickly overtook Alexander Smolyar (ART Grand Prix) and Logan sargeant (Charouz), before rolling out and being opportunistic when the pilots in front of him fought.

No top 12 for Hauger

The Habs finished 5th, and ended a series of five races without a single point. His teammate Caio Collet, who finished just ahead of him, was demoted to 9th position after receiving a five-second penalty. The Brazilian was penalized at the top of the steep hill for going beyond the limits of the track and taking advantage of it, as he overtook three cars. A non-regulatory overrun but which had the gift of being extremely spectacular.

The other Frenchman Clément Novalak (Trident) limits the damage with a 7th position. For his part, Dennis Hauger (Prema), the championship leader, did not manage to secure the top 12 synonymous with a reverse grid. Starting 14th, the Norwegian did not gain any place, just like his teammate Arthur Leclerc (Prema), 13th. It is the pole sitter from the day before, Jack Doohan (Trident), who will start from the leading position for race 2 on Saturday evening (17:55 p.m.).
