Hauger takes a big step towards the title, Martins at fault

After five races without a single podium, championship leader Dennis Hauger put the church back in the center of the village by dominating the main race of the Zandvoort meeting. Author of a good start, the Norwegian took advantage of the incessant pressure put by Victor Martins on the second David Schumacher (Trident) to get to the front of the race and win alone. The Prema driver also took the fastest lap in the race and increased his lead at the top of the championship to 47 points compared to Jack Doohan (Trident), only 6th in the race. The Australian is now the only one who can deprive Hauger of the title in Sochi, in three weeks.

Martins ruins his efforts

Winner of his first race in Formula 3 Saturday evening, Victor Martins made a big mistake at the end of the race. Tired of having spent his race in third position honking behind David Schumacher, the Frenchman lost patience in the banking, two laps from the end, and tried to go through the inside. Only problem: he locked his front left wheel and hit the German. Result, end of the race for Schumacher and logical penalty of ten seconds for the Habs, who therefore finished 10th with only one small point. The Frenchman, who could have played for the honorary title of vice-champion in Sochi, will ultimately have to fight hard in Russia to finish on the podium in the championship.

This incident in any case had the merit of benefiting Clément Novalak (Trident). Fourth throughout the race thanks to a superb overtake on Doohan at the first corner on the first lap, the Habs were in the front row when Martins sent Schumacher into the background. He only had to take second place in the race, which also allowed him to overtake Frederik Vesti and Victor Martins for third place in the championship. Alexander Smolyar (ART Grand Prix) also took advantage of the offering to get on the podium.
