This is an announcement that we didn't necessarily expect. A week after the confirmation of the end of the SMP Racing sporting program, Alexander Smolyar, for whom a large part of his support was provided by the Russian team, finally seems ready to race this year.
However, in his speech, the Russian, initially expected in F3 with MP Motorsport, said to himself “ agree with SMP Racing's decision to end its European program due to the unprecedented demands imposed by the FIA on any Russian driver as a condition of access to international competitions » thus refusing to take part in the championship.
MP Motorsport then seemed obliged to find a replacement 10 days before the start of the season in Bahrain. But on the eve of the launch of the campaign, the situation has probably changed because when announcing its line-up for F3, the Dutch structure included him alongside Caio Collet and Kush Maini.
We confirm our FIA F3 driver line-up for the 2022 season:

Why such a reversal?
This confirmation, which surprised more than one person, also raises many questions. Why does Alexander Smolyar continue? “ I will not participate in F3 or any other international competition this season,” he assured a week ago.
A solution has obviously been found internally and the Russian seems to have finally agreed to sign the FIA document asking Russian drivers and teams to race neutrally and under the FIA flag. A document hitherto criticized by the native of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. A situation which could have repercussions on the rest of his career and on his relationship with SMP Racing.
