While the Trident looked set to score a hat-trick at Monza, Alexander Smolyar (MP Motorsport) stole the show. Big favorites for pole position, Zane Maloney and Roman Stanek saw the Russian slip right under their noses in the final moments of qualifying this Friday.

Improved in all his sectors, Alexander Smolyar took the best time with a time of 1'37"559 a few moments before the final whistle, ahead of Zane Maloney and Roman Stanek by 47 thousandths and almost 2 tenths respectively. Behind the leading trio, Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) performed well with number 4e chrono. If he finished a little more than 2 tenths behind the mark of his Russian counterpart, the Tricolore, leader of the championship, managed to beat direct rivals for the title such as Arthur Leclerc (Prema) and Oliver Bearman (Prema), respectively 5e and 6e.

Hadjar in the decor

If on Victor Martins' side everything went rather well, Isack Hadjar (Hitech GP) did not experience the same fortune. With only 5 points behind his friend in the Drivers ranking, the member of the Red Bull Junior Team should not be lacking in qualifying otherwise they would have to run behind them to hope to be crowned this weekend. Alas, everything did not go as planned.

Too much on the attack mid-session, Isack Hadjar veered too wide at the Parabolique, the last corner of the Monza circuit, and was unable to catch up. car ending its course in the wall. Provisionally 8th at the time of his exit from the track, the Ile-de-France resident finally fell to 16th place. He now has no choice but to go back up to hope to leave with the champion's crown.

Twelfth in qualifying, Caio Collet (MP Motorsport) will start in pole position for the Sprint Race.
