No more joking, let's get down to business. Fifteen days after pre-season testing in Bahrain, the drivers of F3 met this Friday for the first laps of the 2022 season. Still on the Sakhir track, Romain Stanek (Trident) dominated the only training session before qualifying later in the day.
In a session where the MP Motorsport and the VAR, respectively led by Caio Collet and Franco Colapinto, quickly took the first places, we had to wait until the last 20 minutes to see things get agitated on the track. Discreet during the first half hour, Roman Stanek woke up a quarter of an hour from the checkerboard by taking the lead of the session ahead of Franco Colapinto thanks to a lap in 1'48"012.
Enough to wake up the Prema with in particular Oliver Bearman and Jak Crawford who appeared in the Top 5 before Arthur Leclerc appeared in 2nd position at 78 thousandths. But it was ultimately Grégoire Saucy (ART Grand Prix) who finished behind Roman Stanek, only 24 thousandths behind the Czech.
Very productive from start to finish of these 45 minutes of testing, Franco Colapinto grabbed the last place in the Top 5 just behind Isack Hadjar (Hitech GP), best French representative in this session. The Ile-de-France resident finished 4th, just under 3 tenths from the benchmark of his Trident counterpart. Second French entry in F3, Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) ranked 12th, 7 tenths from the lead.
