It was a bit of a mess at Imola at the end of qualifying in Formula 3, and it was finally the rookie Zane Maloney (Trident) who emerged from the chaos. The Barbadian took pole position in 1'41"480 on the drying Imola track. He beat his experienced teammate Roman Stanek (Trident/+0 »107) and the American Jak Crawford (Prema/+0 »116). The former R-ace GP driver will therefore start from pole on Sunday, in the main race.

A qualifying session largely disrupted by the collision between Enzo Trulli (Carlin) and Arthur Leclerc (Prema). Five minutes from the end of the session, the Monegasque, then in 9th position, was hit from behind by Jarno's son, ending his qualification in the gravel trap. Charles' brother will start in 21st position during the main race on Sunday (8:50 a.m.).

Colapinto on pole for race 1 on Saturday

When the lights turned green again, the drivers only had five minutes left and therefore one or two laps to qualify. In this context, despite a good form which suggested an even better ranking, the two French drivers Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) and Isack Hadjar (Hitech) saved the furniture by qualifying respectively 6th (+0 »765) and 7th (+0 »791). Also note the beautiful 4th place of Grégoire Saucy with the tricolor ART Grand Prix team.

Author of the first pole position of the season in Bahrain, Franco Colapinto (Van Amersfoort) will start from the leading position this Saturday morning during the reverse grid sprint race (10:35 a.m.), thanks to his 12th place in qualifying. He will start ahead of Ido Cohen and the MP Motorsport duo Kush Maini – Caio Collet.
