FR 2.0 – Ocon and Gasly still on top in Barcelona

The Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 is taking part in its final test session this weekend at the Catalunya circuit. The first day was marked by sunny weather, allowing the teams to concentrate on the settings of the new Formula Renault 2.0s and the degradation of the tires on the most abrasive track on the calendar. Drivers were also able to chase performance before the season kicks off at Motorland Aragon in just over a month.

Pierre Gasly (Tech 1 Racing) dominated the morning of the first day with a best time of 1'43"183 ahead Nyck de Vries (Koiranen GP) and Jake Dennis (Fortec Motorsports), while Oliver Rowland (Manor MP Motorsport) and Bruno Bonifacio (Prema Powerteam) completed the top five. “The work pays off”, comments the Frenchman. “It's a new car and it takes time to assimilate all its finer points and to do development. At Motorland and Paul Ricard we worked on different pieces of the puzzle and in Barcelona we are putting them together. We are second here, there is still work to do to have pole for the first qualifying of the season. »

The Tech 1 Racing resident was still at the head of the timesheet in the afternoon, but it will ultimately be his compatriot Esteban Ocon (ART Junior Team) who won the best time of the day with a time of 1'43"099, Nyck de Vries completing the top three ahead of Jake Dennis and Oliver Rowland.
