FR3.5-C2: Sainz Jr scores a double at Spa

Carlos Sainz Jr had a perfect weekend at Spa-Francorchamps by signing a second victory at Spa-Francorchamps ahead of Will Stevens. Oliver Rowland regains a place on the podium on the green carpet.

FR3.5-C2: Sainz Jr scores a double at Spa

Carlos Sainz Jr (Dams) had a perfect weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, taking pole and victory in both Formula races. Renault 3.5 Series. The resident of Red Bull Junior Team did not have an easy race this afternoon, however, with Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsports) putting a lot of pressure on the leader in the first part of the race. But the Briton fell to fourth place following a bad stop, finding himself behind Will Stevens (Strakka Racing) and Richie Stanaway (Lotus). “It’s a victory that will stay in my memory. Spa is one of my favorite circuits, one of the most legendary. Today, the team played a big role in the victory. We improved our pace in qualifying and then had a perfect pit stop even though Oliver seemed faster in the race. The weekend accounting operation is perfect, but everything could be different in Moscow », commented the winner.

While Carlos Sainz Jr signed his fourth victory of the season ahead of Will Stevens, Oliver Rowland was finally able to reach the last step of the podium on the green carpet. Richie Stanaway received a 20-second penalty and was demoted to eighth after being called back to the pits too late by his team. “I have to thank the tremendous work of my team. The car was much more competitive than yesterday. We had high hopes, but I encountered a problem during my stop. I engaged the clutch and the engine stopped. It?s just a shame we didn?t challenge Carlos after that?, explained the Briton.

The top five is thus completed by The French Pierre Gasly (Arden Motorsport) and Norman Nato (Dams) complete the top five after starting in the middle of the grid. the first mentioned is now 43 points behind the Championship leader but retains second place with seven points ahead of Oliver Rowland.
