Franco Colapinto, a weekend to forget

Although he was excluded from the fight for pole position after leading qualifying for a time, finishing with the 7th fastest time, the MP Motorsport driver approached the two races in the best possible way. Starting from 6th place in the Sprint Race, Franco Colapinto made a great comeback to sign his first victory of the year, his third in two years of racing. F3. On the podium, he did not hide his smile while humming his national anthem. “The car was on fire, I just had to get it back to the checkerboard,” he said after the festivities.

But this smile, the native of Buenos Aires had to truncate it with a grimace a few hours later because of his team, found guilty of a technical infraction on its three cars. The outcome was terrible for him who lost this success after his disqualification was made official, as well as those of his teammates Mari Boya and Jonny Edgar. A misfortune that he could have quickly forgotten with the Main Race, but Luke Browning (Hitech GP) wanted it otherwise, not avoiding contact with the South American, forced to retire after two laps.

Placed among the title contenders at the start of the year, Franco Colapinto is deadlocked after two rounds. With only 10 points under his belt, the Argentinian has already lost a lot of ground at the top of the rankings and will have to find a solution to get back up. In Imola in a little over a month and a half (May 19-21), the 3 pilot Williams F1 is aware that another misstep would take him away from his dreams of winning the title.
