Giuliano Alesi on pole under the deluge at Autopolis

The qualifying session for the Autopolis Super Formula event was largely disrupted by the weather conditions, with the track trapping several drivers with no less than four red flags, Giuliano Alesi ultimately emerging in pole position, his first in the Japanese series.

Delayed by a few minutes due to weather conditions, the only qualifying session saw the French driver of Team Tom's – Toyota achieve the best time in 1'38″252, ahead of his teammate Ritomo Miyata by 85 thousandths.

The top 5 of the session is completed by Sena Sakaguchi (P.mu – cerumo / Inging – Toyota), Yuhi Sekiguchi (Team Impul – Toyota) and Sho Tsuboi (P.mu – cerumo / Inging). The Honda drivers suffered in these conditions since Tomoki Nojiri remains the first representative of the brand with his car of Team Mugen in 7th position.

Less success for Kazuya Oshima (Rookie – Toyota), Yuichi Nakayama (Kondo Racing – Toyota), Nirei Fukuzumi (Dandelion Racing – Honda) and Toshiki Oyu (Nakajima Racing – Honda), these four drivers having made mistakes during the session , with red flag neutralization during each incident.
