GP3 – C2: Lorandi winner, Russell champion

The start is quite hectic for the ART GP: if at first Jack Aitken manages to keep the advantage over George Russell, the pilot Mercedes passes in force on his teammate who loses two places and finds himself 8e. By being 6e and Aitken 8e, Russell first needs the fastest lap in the race to be titled at the end of the race. He therefore imposes a hellish pace to secure the two additional points.

At the front, there is no change compared to the starting order, Alessio Lorandi (Jenzer) remains in the lead in front Dorian Boccolacci (Trident) and Niko Kari (Arden), the top 4 remaining in the DRS zone throughout the first part of the race.

Five laps from the end, Daniel Ticktum (DAMS) attacks Kari for the benefit of the podium, but the two residents of the Red Bull Junior Team make contact, the Briton finishing in the gravel. The safety car is deployed on the track and leaves one green lap for the drivers to do battle. If Fukuzumi appears to be pressing on Russell, he maintains the advantage until the end.

Alessio Lorandi won his first race of the season at Jerez ahead of Dorian Boccolacci and Niko Kari who both reached the podium. Anthoine Hubert finished at the foot of the podium and thanks to his 5e place and his best lap in the race, George Russell is crowned GP3 Series world champion with two races in advance. His teammates Fukuzumi and Aitken finished behind him. Giuliano Alesi (Trident) takes the point of the 8e place ahead of Tatiana Calderon (DAMS) and Julien Falchero (Campos).
