Guerrieri takes advantage of bad weather

Formula drivers Renault 3.5 Series could not leave Spa-Francorchamps without a rainy passage. However, just before the start, the Ardennes track was still dry. But, as the drivers took their place on the starting grid for race 2, drops were announced. Most of the drivers then equipped themselves with rain tires but as it now fell in the form of hail, the start was postponed.

The cars set off under safety car conditions and, on the third lap, pole sitter Jake Rosenzweig (Carlin) started perfectly. Having no car in front of him, the American can benefit from intact visibility, while the splashing water bothers the other drivers, even if the rain has stopped. But, while the first pit stops were being made, the race management announced a pit stop penalty for ten drivers! Jake Rosenzweig, Daniel Zampieri (Pons Racing) and Daniel Ricciardo (Tech 1 Racing), who occupied the first three places, are sanctioned.

Esteban Guerrieri (ISR) took advantage of this and inherited first place. The Argentinian is ahead of Daniel Zampieri, Mikhail Aleshin (Carlin), Daniel Ricciardo and Stefano Coletti (Comtec). But, the latter, definitely successful this weekend, took advantage of the last lap to make two overtakes and finish on the podium. Fourth, Mikhail Aleshin misses another podium but leaves Belgium with the championship lead.

« It was a very difficult race, where you had to stay calm, explains Guerrieri. I felt good, and when I was told that ten cars were going to have to do a Drive Through, I pushed as hard as I could. I was surprised, but happy to see the P1 sign. It?s great for ISR, a new team that deserves this victory. »
