DragonSpeed ​​will diversify its sporting activities in 2019, starting in the IndyCar Series with the operation of a DW12 - Chevrolet for Ben Hanley. The Indy 500 will be on the menu of the partial program.

DragonSpeed ​​will commit to a partial program in 2019

After GT (notably in Blancpain GT Series and Pirelli World Challenge) andEndurance (the stable currently operates a BR1 in LM P1 en WEC and took part in theELMS with an Oreca 07 LM P2), here is the team DragonSpeed will engage in IndyCar TV Shows next year, via a partial program of five races, including the Indianapolis 500 in May.

Elton Julian's team has chosen a Chevrolet engine block to equip its DW12, which will be entrusted to one of the usual Endurance drivers: Ben hanley. The latter will evolve from the opening of the season on the streets of St Petersburg in Florida (March 10), then on the Barber Motorsports Park on April 7 before the big meeting of Indy 500 (May 26). Road America and the Mid-Ohio event in June and July will complete the program.

Hanley will be able to draw on his previous experience in FR 3.5 and GP2 to adapt as quickly as possible to driving the car IndyCar. “The last few endurance seasons have given us an intensive platform to develop our skills in preparation, race engineering, pit stops and strategy, comments Elton Julian.

There are some impressive single-seater credentials in the team, and Ben’s pace and exceptional eye for detail with setups and tires should be a major asset. »

This partial commitment could be followed by a full-time presence in 2020, as confirmed by DragonSpeed, which will return to the WEC following its first laps in IndyCar, during the 1000 miles of Sebring (March 15).
