The crown to Ireland

Particular context at Brands Hatch, which was not to be the final round of the world championship. But the H5N1 swine flu decided otherwise, making the organizers of the A1GP decide to skip the last event, scheduled for Mexico. Neel Jani therefore only has this English weekend to try to put Switzerland ahead of Ireland for the world champion title.

A complicated mission for the winner of the Feature Race in Portugal since Adam Carroll managed to achieve the feat of achieving the two pole positions of the British round. The Irish driver managed to masterfully lead the Sprint Race, a race which saw him take an almost definitive advantage in the general classification. Neel Jani, only eighth, more than twenty seconds behind Carroll, must then count on an exploit to win the title.
Although the Feature Race was more lively, with several laps under a safety car, Adam Carroll managed to maintain the lead, signing a second victory at Brands Hatch and asserting his domination of the paddock.

This double victory allows Ireland to climb to the top of the podium in the final ranking, ahead of Switzerland and Portugal. France finished in fifth place following the two British races, in which Nicolas Cheers finished in 9th and 10th place. What makes a French driver express her optimism for next season: “We achieved the second best lap in the race on two occasions, which shows our rediscovered competitiveness. All the indicators are green and we are already thinking about next season. I am sure we will be able to shine there from the start.”
After its final victory in 2008, Switzerland narrowly missed a second crown. A crown now Irish and obtained on English soil. Quite a symbol.
