The points system changed from 2020

The organizers of the Super Formula championship have announced changes to the points allocation system in the series from 2020.

This change incorporates a whole range of new sporting features in the Japanese series. If the previous system offered 10 points to the winner, 8 to the second, 6 to the third, 5 to the fourth, 4 to the fifth, 3 to the sixth, 2 to the seventh and 1 point to the driver classified eighth, the total of units will now be distributed from the following way:

20 points to the winner
15 points in second
11 points in the third
8 points in the fourth
6 points in the fifth
5 points in the sixth
4 points in the seventh
3 points in the eighth
2 points in the ninth
1 point to the tenth

Enough to expand the number of drivers rewarded in the top 10 and also better promote a victory. Furthermore, the author of the pole will receive three points, with the next two highest ranked drivers being rewarded with 2 pts and 1 pt. Against only one point for the poleman so far.

The other major modification to the sporting regulations concerns the introduction of the Full Course Yellow system in racing.
