Mégane – Costa ends Schothorst reign

Albert Costa completes the day of the first winners in the World Series by Renault with Jules Bianchi in Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Stoffel Vandoorne in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Oscar Nogues in Eurocup Clio. The Oregon Team driver, who took pole this morning for the two races contested on the circuit F1 of the Nürburgring, resisted the attack of Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing) where the Dutchman went wide in the first corner. The Spaniard, who started alongside his teammate Fabien Thuner, took the checkered flag first while the Swiss took second place. “When I arrived from the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, everyone thought I was going to win this championship with my elbow to the door”, remembers the former Formula Renault 3.5 Series driver. “But it doesn’t happen like that. I had to understand the car and spend a lot of time working with Oregon Team, because it is a very tough discipline. Today it pays off with this first victory for me in a sedan. It revives me and motivates everyone around me. We had to win! »

Bas Schothorst did not try to tempt the devil and was content with the last step of the podium, missing victory for the first time this season. The TDS pilot was slowed down after brushing against the wall while making his stop. “I made a mistake like I have never made today by touching the wall at the entrance when returning to the pits. My race could have ended there! I continued with a crooked steering wheel and poor gear shifting, but fortunately I managed to reach the finish and score the points for third place. It?s a lesser evil. » The Dutchman finished ahead of Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Team) who consistently beat Tom Coronel (TDS Racing) before the WTCC driver retired following contact with teammate Kelvin Snoeks. Kevin Gilardoni (Oregon Team) completes the top five after being beaten by his compatriot who only started from eighth place.
