Miguel Molina is ready

Racing at home is always a special moment, especially when it coincides with the start of the season. Miguel Molina (Ultimate Motorsport) knows this atmosphere by heart. This will be the fourth time for him that he will compete in front of his home crowd in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, with some success since he won in Barcelona in 2007.

Miguel Molina, you are discovering a new team this season, in a discipline that you know perfectly well. How was your winter?
“We have worked a lot with Ultimate Motorsport. We had to get to know each other, learn to work together and acquire certain automatisms. Ultimate Motorsport is a very professional, very competent team, with great ambitions. We proved during the last collective tests in Barcelona that we are competitive, in the dry as well as in the wet. But now, everything we proved during the off-season has been overhauled. The only significant verdict will be that of the first qualifications. »

Is it an advantage to start the season at home?
“Everyone knows the Barcelona track very well. So I don't know if this is a real advantage in itself. What is certain is that it brings a gain in confidence to start at home. There will be people to support me and it's a circuit that I appreciate and which is generally successful for me. I would be in a good environment to start my collaboration with Ultimate Motorsport. I?m used to finishing seasons well, this year we start where we finished last year? I hope this will get me off to a good start! »

You are clearly one of the favorites. How do you approach this situation?
“Last year I was already announced as a favorite! For me, Charles Pic and James Walker are the big favorites. My objective, like that of the team, is of course to fight for the title. We have a serious card to play and we will try to seize our chance. It's impressive, at Ultimate everyone thinks about winning and nothing else. It is essential to get the season off to a good start. I could tell you that the main thing is to secure points for Barcelona, but I believe that this season, with so many title contenders, the best thing is to win a race as quickly as possible. »

A word on the new aerodynamic configuration?
“The car is really interesting with the new aero. We are faster, that's for sure. But with less support in curves, the behavior is more lively, especially in rapids. You'll have to be careful, but it's really fun to drive like that. You don't have to provoke her anymore to get a time. »
