Nascar – Jacques Villeneuve takes a podium at GP3R

?The important thing is to have fun, but you do it more when you win. » Even before the hostilities of the Trois-Rivières Grand Prix were launched, Jacques Villeneuve had announced the color: the world champion of Formula 1 1997 did not come to make up the numbers. “I’m not here to destroy other riders’ chances at the championship. On the other hand, it is certain that I will be competitive and that I will try to take the lead. » This is exactly what the Quebecer did, who led 29 of the 46 laps in this event on his home soil.

But while he wanted to achieve his first victory in this event that he particularly appreciates, the former driver Williams left a half-open breach, “an error of judgment”, according to him, and was passed by the Ontarian DJ Kennington, who would sign his 19th victory in the discipline. Worse, another Quebecer, Andrew Ranger, scolded him in the last few hundred meters of the race. Although Villeneuve had to settle for a 3rd place, it is still his best result in Nascar Canadian Tire.

A performance that is already much more convincing compared to his last appearance in the Sprint-Cup Series, at Sonoma in California last June, where Jacques Villeneuve was only able to complete around twenty laps before giving up. Unless there is a surprise, we should no longer have the opportunity to see the former Williams driver racing in Nascar again this season, the fault of an already busy schedule.
