First victory for Doornbos

Thanks to a perfect start, Doornbos beat pole sitter Tonio Liuzzi (Italy). For his part, Irishman Adam Carroll retained third position. At the end of the first lap, the safety car entered the track due to several collisions.

The race was restarted after four laps. Liuzzi immediately sought to regain the upper hand over Doornbos. But the leader retained the advantage until the refueling window opened. The Dutchman was the first to enter the pit lane, one lap before Liuzzi, Carroll and Albuquerque. The Irish and Portuguese mechanics were much better than the Italians since Liuzzi came out of the pits after losing two places!

Leader of the Championship, the Swiss team continued its difficult weekend. Starting from the back of the grid due to not having set a time in qualifying, Neel Jani received a penalty due to a tire change carried out outside the regulatory window.

The race was stopped after eleven of the fourteen laps, when the Brazilian Felipe Guimaraes and the South African Adrian Zaugg collided. A large leader, Doornbos won a deserved victory ahead of Carroll and Albuquerque: “We’ve been paying attention to this moment for a while! The goal is to win the main race, and starting from pole position will be the best way to do that. Furthermore, this victory allows us to stay in the title race. »

Thanks to the point for the best lap in the race, Adam Carroll allows Ireland to regain the lead in the championship from Switzerland.
