Travis takes stock

After a season which turned out to be the most exciting since the appearance of the A1GP in 2005, John Travis, the technical director, tried to take stock, among other things, of the arrival of Ferrari as engine and chassis supplier. Previously associated with Lola for chassis and Zytek for engines, the A1GP concluded at the start of the 2008-2009 season a six-year agreement with Ferrari as main supplier. “ I am very satisfied », indicated Travis. “ Our objective was to obtain high-performance cars; we wanted to continue to have great races and competitive cars so as not to lose the A1GP philosophy “, he indicated.

« The result proved conclusive. I think it's down to two things: firstly, the car is easy to tune and we provide lots of data to the teams so that the top teams don't escape with a technological advantage. The second thing is that the teams have reached a milestone and the drivers have been better. »

Asked about the developments made to single-seaters, Travis praised the merits of his formula, much better thought out than the F1. " The design of our front wing, the balance, the mechanical and aerodynamic grip is the right philosophy. When you look at the number of overtakes there are during a race, it exceeds anything you can see in Formula 1. So I think we have found the right formula. »

He is now impatiently awaiting the launch of the new season. But before that, the cars will be dismantled and rebuilt during the summer. “ We will make sure that all the cars have the latest developments because it is difficult to do so during the season but also because the teams are limited in terms of running. », he concluded. “ We will do it this summer to be ready for the first tests at Silverstone. »
