This weekend, in Monza, where the fifth event of the Superleague Formula season is being contested, there will only be one French club represented, Olympique Lyonnais. But there will be four French drivers competing for victory, a first this season.

An air of France in Monza

Tristan Gommendy (FC Porto) and Nelson Panciatici (Olympique Lyonnais) were, at the start of the season, at Magny-Cours, the only French drivers on the Superleague Formula field. Rather discreet, the two drivers evolved without making any noise during the first two rounds, before Tristan Gommendy won his first race of the season at Donington Park.

During the fourth meeting, in Estoril, if Gommendy had to temporarily give up his place to Alvaro Parente, Sébastien Bourdais (FC Sevilla) came to reinforce the French contingent, with success. Second in the second race, Le Manceau won the richly endowed super final.

At Monza, for the penultimate meeting of the season, Tristan Gommendy makes his return and a fourth Frenchman enters the race. Replacing Franck Perera, who himself succeeded Jonathan Kennard, Julien Jousse has expanded his season, after his experiences in GT (LMS) and in Formula 2, whose season ends in Barcelona on November 1.

The single-seaters of FC Sevilla, AS Roma, FC Porto and Olympique Lyonnais will therefore be represented this weekend by French drivers, proving the quality of French drivers in a discipline which is making its mark.
