You are entering the history of motorsport, and more particularly Dutch sport...
I didn't know that no driver from my country had ever won the Grand Prix. Even if it's not a question of comparing yourself to other drivers, it is true that it is quite impressive. I also believe I am the first rookie to win since 2008 (and Keisuke Kunimoto. Editor’s note).
How did this famous restart go after the safety car?
I got off to a really good start. I knew this would probably be my only chance to take the lead. We had a good pace, but to be honest Juri was faster overall.
And you also knew how to resist when necessary...
I didn't expect to be able to contain it. I knew he was going to try one last maneuver. I believed that in the last two laps he would be able to pass. I made sure to achieve perfect sectors 4 to have a sufficient gap and not be overtaken.
What does this prestigious success mean to you at the end of an average FIA campaign? F3 ?
We have evolved really well as a team. We knew we hadn't been the strongest during the season, which wasn't easy for me either. It’s really been a rollercoaster in terms of results. I didn't like it, nor did the team. We really worked very hard. This weekend, we arrived with clear ideas and good preparation.
You are a former pilot Red Bull. And you beat Jüri Vips who is in the Austrian program. Is this revenge?
I think I beat all three (Jüri Vips, Liam Lawson and Yuki tsunoda. Editor’s note)! Let it be a pilot Renault, Red Bull… whatever. They are all good. Jüri can really be one of the rising riders in the years to come. Beating him is a good feeling.
What will the future be like now?
I'm ready for anything, but budget-wise I can only do F3. I hope this success can open doors for next year.
