The rally festival in Varzi with the Mythical Cars Rally

Riding on the growing attraction for old cars, this event was set up in a few months. Drawing on the advice of Andrea Adamo, the establishment was carried out in Varzi, a small town with a medieval heart located 1 hours south of Milan. It is open to cars having raced between 30 and WRC of 2021. This includes the Kit-Cars, the Super 1600 and the Super 2000. The R-GTs were also admitted, because they are spectacular and it fits well with the spirit displayed this weekend in Italy.

The organizers managed to bring in Marcus Grönholm who will drive a 2008 Subaru Impreza, the last entered by Prodrive in the WRC. The Finn will reunite with his famous co-driver Timo Rautiainen. The old crew Peugeot and Ford will not be the only one from the world. Alister McRae will be present on a Subaru Impreza 555 which he has not used often unlike his brother Colin who was world champion with it in 1995. The magical sound of this car will delight the spectators who are expected in Lombardy. The Mythical takes up some of the special stages that made the Quattro Regioni famous, which has long featured among the rounds of the European Championship. Drivers such as Simo Lampinen, Sandro Munari, Attilio Bettega and Jean-Claude Andruet have distinguished themselves there in the past.

Given the limited space on which the service park could be installed, only 37 crews could be accommodated. Among them, there is another world champion, WRC2 this time. Between Portugal and Sardinia, Andreas Mikkelsen will indeed make a detour through the north of Italy. The Norwegian will return to the Skoda Fabia S2000 with which he was double IRC champion in 2011 and 2012. It is also in this series that the Turkish Burcu Cetinkaya spoke a few years ago. The young woman returns with pleasure to Italy where she has already ridden in the past. It will be based on an original Mini R4 which is equipped with a kit from Oreca.

Among the cars lined up in the Varzi park, the organizers can congratulate themselves on having brought together a nice “slice” of the history of the rally. There is indeed a nice diversity of models with Lancia Deltas from the start of the Gr A era, Super 2000s, Kit-Cars, WRCs and even a C3 WRC with which Sébastien Ogier won at Monte-Carlo 2019.

Above all friendly, this event nevertheless offers a route of 7 special stages for a total of 78 km timed. In order to provide maximum benefit to spectators and competitors, a 7-hour shakedown will take place on Friday from 9:00 a.m. just after technical checks which will be done the old-fashioned way, that is to say in public. The first section will be run in the evening from 19:48 p.m.
