Team, car and co-driver, Gilbert changes everything in 2019

In 2019, Quentin Gilbert will experience a year like no other in the French Asphalt Rally Championship. The Frenchman accepted an offer from the Italian team HK Racing to drive a new Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.

“I intend to rely on the experience acquired last year to aim for the title, explains the fourth of the 2018 season, victorious at Rouergue. I was discovering a new environment, but I now have a better knowledge of the field and I hope to be able to play at the forefront even if the competition will be there again. »

The Junior World Championship (JWRC) champion and WRC 3 2015 will also benefit froma new co-pilot in the person of Christopher Guieu. His former sidekick Renaud Jamoul was called up by Adrien Fourmaux in WRC2. “I wish him all the best after our adventure. Christopher Guieu is now my co-driver and he has several years of experience, like with Max Vatanen in 2018.

We are from the same generation and we should form a good duo given his character. I am a pilot who needs a certain complicity and this requires a partner who listens, who likes to be interested in things, to give his opinion, to calm me down or even to encourage me”, analyzes Quentin Gilbert.

The one who will be at the start of Rally National des Routes du Nord (February 22-24), however, is not drawing a line under its World Cup ambitions. " Never say never ! I would like to be able to compete in one round on dirt and one on asphalt. This It would be a pleasure to return to the atmosphere of the World Cup if the budget allows it, but I am focusing on my main objective for the moment. » The start of the season is scheduled for Le Touquet (Pas-de-Calais, March 14-16).
