Walter Röhrl remains mainly known in WRC for his world titles won with the Fiat 131 Abarth and the Opel Ascona in 1980 and 1982, as well as for his stints with Lancia (1983) and Audi from 1984.

Initially expected at Mercedes in 1981 to pilot the 500SL before the sudden end of the program by the brand with the star, Röhrl had contested the campaign with Porsche, mainly in the German Rally Championship.

Author of four victories at the Hessen Rally, the Serengeti Safari Rally, the Anterior Palatinate Rally and the Baltic Rally, Röhrl did not miss his only stint with Porsche in rally.

The restored example was built on December 12, 1980 and was one of nine prototypes built. The 924 Carrera GTS Rally features a 4-liter turbocharged 2,0-cylinder engine, a unit which competed in the entire 1981 season and has 10 km on its odometer today.

“It was a huge surprise for me, confesses Röhrl after discovering the car on his 74th birthday. I got out of this car 40 years ago and haven't sat in it since. So I was surprised when Roland Kussmaul (from Porsche Heritage) suddenly showed up in this car.

She was the one who opened the door to Porsche for me. That's why I feel a particularly close connection with the 924. For me, it's a journey through time. I immediately feel 40 years younger. »
