Hyundai Motorsport continues its runs in Finland

No time to feel sorry for Hyundai Motorsport after the accident during testing Thierry Neuville last week, which brought a premature end to the return to work for the world champion team.

Andrea Adamo's men returned to the Finnish slopes this week with the i20 coupe WRC, entrusted to the Belgian driver and reigning world champion Ott Tänak to perfect preparation for returning to competition in the WRC.

“It was important for us to test Finland this week, to quickly follow up after the incident that Thierry and Nicolas had last week and also to send a clear message that we are ready to run and move forward together, proclaims the Italian boss.

We are disappointed not to race in Finland this year, but it is an ideal place for testing with excellent organization and difficult roads. This allowed two of our crews to get back in the car, gain confidence and get used to the high speeds of the WRC again.

We also worked on some developments of the car, in particular to improve our performance on this surface. We address these issues and always keep things in reserve for future integration or certification. »

Andrea Adamo refers here to small aerodynamic developments, notably on the front of the i20 Coupe WRC, which can be seen in the video below.

“I have to say that I missed being in action, admits Ott Tänak. Even though I already had the chance to drive the Hyundai i20 R5 last month, it feels good to start again with the Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC.

I was waiting to start working with the team again, as we put forward new ideas for the car during the lockdown period. I can’t wait to start implementing them already.

On the sporting side, it is very important for the drivers and co-drivers to get back into the routine and accumulate the kilometers in a WRC car, before the start of the race, because the break was quite long and it takes time to get back into it. rhythm. »

This Friday, the day of the World Motor Sport Council, should make it possible to confirm the future end-of-season calendar for the WRC, with the possibility of seeing Estonia, homeland of Ott Tänak, join the program.
