The noose is tightening in Alsace

As we indicated to you in AUTOhebdo n°1990 last week, the general councils of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin had formalized their wish to withdraw from the organization of the Rally from France-Alsace. This morning, two other pieces of information were relayed by regional media. Firstly the city of Mulhouse explained that she was abandoning her participation in the event, the decision having been transmitted to the FFSA. On the other hand, it is the Urban community of Strasbourg (CUS) which will halve its support for the French round of the World Rally Championship, the envelope going from 300.000 to 150.000 € in the event of the rally being held.

“We will not go beyond this amount” declared Robert Herrmann, president of the CUS, quoted by France 3 Alsace. The same TV channel adds on its website that the Region should once again provide its support, but without increasing its allocation. The Latest News from Alsace reports that the CUS no longer wishes to organize the shakedown at Hautepierre and the super-special. These are now close to 670.000 € which would be lacking to achieve financial balance.
