Friday, Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) n’a certainement pas oublié comment piloter une voiture de rallye sur le tarmac espagnol. L’octuple champion du monde des rallyes (WRC) as proof, finished the first stage of the 2022 Rally of Catalonia in first place this Friday, October 21.
Two weeks after supporting his teammate Kalle Rovanperä's quest for victory in New Zealand, the Frenchman (re)became the Finnish genius' main opponent in the WRC. Despite the four special victories of Harri Rovanperä's son in this opening stage, the Gapençais (three times scratch) beat his successor by 4''8.

General classification on the evening of Stage 1:

The two representatives of Toyota Gazoo Racing should have the opportunity to continue the fight on Saturday. “My lead is not very comfortable, so I will continue to attack tomorrow (Saturday). In the clan Hyundai, Thierry Neuville tries to hold on to the shock. His teammate Ott Tänak is slightly behind following a breakdown of the hybrid system during the course. A battle for fifth place is taking shape between three competitors: Dani Sordo (Hyundai), Elfyn Evans (Toyota) and Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota), all three of whom suffered a puncture on SS7.
This Rally of Catalonia only seems to concern two teams. Indeed, the team's three Ford Puma M-Sport passed through the first eight stages like ghosts. Only the third time of Frenchman Pierre-Louis Loubet in SS8 is a reason for satisfaction; unfortunately, he lost considerable time in SS3 due to a puncture and therefore did not appear in the top 10.
In WRC2, the two outsiders for the title (in the absence of Andreas Mikkelsen) are almost running together. Emil Lindholm (Skoda) and Kajetan Kajetanowicz (Skoda) however leave it to Teemu Suninen (Hyundai) to lead the category, ahead of Nikolay Gryazin (Skoda). Yohan Rossel is third, around fifteen seconds behind. Finally, Alpine dominates the R-GT class, with a provisional double from Manu Guigou ahead of Philippe Baffoun (+1'45''7).
