Ott Tänak: “Starting the season with a good feeling”

Barely crowned world champion with the Toyota Gazoo Racing, Ott Tänak chose to leave Tommi Mäkinen's lineup to try to defend his crown with Hyundai Motorsport.

The Korean team, also crowned in 2019, offered itself the services of the Estonian to form a “Dream Team” with Thierry Neuville, Sebastian Loeb and Dani Sordo. The latest addition to the team, Tänak was able to discover his mount during the preparation tests for the Rally Monte-Carlo shortly before the end-of-year holidays.

“I was positively surprised after my first kilometers and I felt good in the car, Tänak analyzes. Every car has its own personality, but so far I can say that the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC constitutes a versatile and solid set.

We still have a few days of testing before Monte-Carlo and we will be ready for this first challenge. »

For this first event, always made delicate by the road conditions which can prove to be very changeable and tricky, Tänak will seek consistency above all.

“It is never easy to change teams because there is a lot of work to do, continues the former pilot M-Sport Ford. First of all, getting to know people, then – of course – being comfortable in the car, while adapting to different conditions.

We have worked closely with the team to be in the best possible shape for Monte-Carlo. I will bring all my experience to the team and together we will work hard to defend our titles and those of the team.

For Monte-Carlo, I am still looking for a regular start, to start the season with a good feeling. For the season, anything is possible. »
