Why did Loeb choose Citroën?

Sébastien Loeb has decided to extend his contract with Citroën for two additional seasons with the possibility of leaving at the end of 2012. The Alsatian gives the reasons which motivated his choice.

After a long wait regarding Sébastien?s future Loeb, Citroën announced that the Alsatian would remain behind the wheel of the DS3 WRC for the next two seasons. However, the rivalry with his teammate Sébastien Ogier and the call from Volkswagen could have pushed the seven-time world champion to take another path.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman chose stability even if he admits that his choice was not easy. “It was a difficult decision to make”, he admits. “Citroën showed me that they really wanted to continue with me. In addition to the sporting side, the marketing aspect built over the last ten years is very important for the brand. I also know that I have a good team and a good car. For the moment, the DS3 WRC is the benchmark, I had no reason to leave. »

Sébastien Loeb specifies that his rivalry with Sébastien Ogier did not factor into his choice. “If I had continued in the discipline within another team, it would have been the same thing because Ogier would still be competing. By making the decision to stay in the WRC, I knew that I was going to have to face him and the other drivers. At Citroën, I know that I own the same car as Ogier. I know what I have and I know I can beat it like I'm doing this year. »
