The start had been in line with expectations. Well, probably not to those ofAdrien fourmaux. With a lot of desires, the Frenchman wanted to show that he was indeed the driver on the field having covered the most kilometers at the wheel of a Rally1 hybrid. The machine went into overdrive and the punishment was very brutal.
The No. 1 Ford Puma Hybrid Rally16 crossed the Col de la Couillole (Alpes-Maritimes) at very high speed. The start of the descent was even faster with enfilades. The left exit went well, as did the passage to the right, flush with the red and white plastic barriers which demarcated the special stage. Plunging into the shadow of a new left curve, everything then went haywire. Excessive understeer irreparably sent the car towards the outside where the rock wall awaited it. The impact against the embankment was violent. Like in a pinball machine, the hill served both as bumper and springboard, propelling the Ford across the road. Literally flying over a useless protective barrier, she was swallowed by the void. Depending on the angle at which the video plays, the images are chilling. Ejected towards the ravine, the car fell heavily on a scree, destroyed. The safety cell which traps the passenger compartment has been dressed in a carbon skin resembling the Puma.
