Now focused on the World Championship of Rallycross with the PSRX VW Sweden structure, Petter Solberg slipped in for a test session, in his former role as driver of rally.

The 2003 world champion was invited by Volkswagen Motorsport to drive on snow with the new Polo GTI R5, which is continuing its development with a view to its upcoming debut in competition.

Accompanied by the double world champion WRC Marcus Grönholm, already involved in numerous test sessions with Volkswagen in the past, and WRC-2 champion Pontus Tidemand, Solberg and his acolytes of the day accumulated almost 300 km on a track near Kall.

“It was just fantastic to be back behind the wheel of a rally car and helping the Volkswagen family, declares the Norwegian. The team has done a great job and the car is fantastic to drive. I didn't want to stop at the end of the day.

I used my years of rally experience to work with the engineers on small changes to the car. »

Volkswagen Motorsport announced a few days ago that it had sold fifteen examples of its Polo GTI R5, which should begin to be delivered in the second half of 2018. Petter Solberg will return to rallying in February by taking part in the historic Swedish Rally, with a Ford Escort MK2.
