Support assured for Wales Rally GB

Until 2018, the Welsh Government, main partner of Wales Rally GB, provides financial support for the British event registered again this year in the World Rally Championship.

International Motor Sports Ltd, organizers of the event, made the deal official yesterday. “We are delighted to have reached a new agreement with the Welsh Government whose support has been essential to the success of Wales Rally GB, comments Ben Taylor, director of IMS. The move to North Wales (in 2013, Editor’s note) was a great success. We can now look forward to building on this foundation and implementing exciting new projects to grow the event. »

An essential support which should allow the event to regain its place in the 2016 calendar of the WRC, the rounds of the next season however remaining to be confirmed. Just like the Welshman Elfyn Evans, the British Kris Meeke admits his satisfaction.

“Wales Rally GB is the closest thing to a home event for me. The stages are among the best in the world and the championship would not be the same without them. I love the conditions in Wales and I love the rally. Wales Rally GB has always been in the championship and always should be. » concludes the Citroën Racing driver, 4th in 2011 with Mini.

The 2015 event will take place from November 12 to 15.
