WRC – Sébastien Ogier withdraws from Fafe Rally Sprint

He never participated. And it won't be this year yet! Sébastien Ogier, the current leader of the World Rally Championship (WRC), is forced to give up the Fafe rally Sprint, this small event of 6,34 kilometers which traditionally takes place near Porto a week before the rally from Portugal.

“Unfortunately, I was struck down by a flu infection”, explains the Volkswagen driver. “My doctor insisted that I withdraw”, regrets the Frenchman. “I would have really liked to take part in this unique event, but my commitment to the World Rally Championship takes precedence over everything else. I hope the fans understand that.”

The 100 spectators expected at Fafe will however be able to console themselves with the arrival of Andreas Mikkelsen at Volkswagen. The Norwegian driver, who will begin his WRC season with the German team in Portugal, will be the only VW representative on this occasion. Indeed, Jari-Matti Latvala, present last year, was forced to give him his place so that he could, like Sébastien Ogier, discover this event.
