Absolute Racing replaces Hardpoint Motorsport

Rob Ferriol and Katherine Legge were to make their debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022 with the Porsche 911 RSR – 19 n°99 from Hardpoint Motorsport alongside Adrien de Leener, in the GTE Am category. The American driver had however confirmed his intention to honor his invitation obtained after winning the Bob Akin Prize, rewarding the best Bronze driver of the'IMSA.

This decision follows the withdrawal of the Mid-Ohio event (IMSA, May 15), with the aim of continuing “commercial opportunities in motorsport”. Hardpoint Motorsport therefore leaves its place to the replacement team Absolute Racing, where we will find the drivers ELMS Andrew Haryanto and Alessio Picariello, associated with rookie Martin Rump. The ACO regulations, however, stipulate that the Chinese team must operate under the Hardpoint Morotsport banner. It will be supported by Proton Competition in Sarthe.

“We were hoping to return to Le Mans this year after our presence last year, explains Ingo Matter, Absolute Racing team principal. We didn't anticipate that this would happen with less than a week to go before Test Day. We would like to thank Christian Reid from Proton and Hardpoint Motorsport for making this possible by giving us access to their car. We can't wait to get started and put the experience gained last year into practice. »

“Christian (Ried. Editor’s note) and the entire Proton team have been fantastic in helping us navigate this process, and we hope to be able to partner with them again very soon,” added Hardpoint Motorsport Owner/Driver Rob Ferriol. Fortunately, with their help, we were able to quickly integrate the Absolute Racing team who we are confident will represent Porsche, Dempsey-Proton and Hardpoint with an excellent result. We wish them good luck and will be cheering them on from the United States. »

Hardpoint Motorsport will continue in IMSA this season with Rob Ferriol and Katherine Legge, notably in Michelin Endurance Cup
