A violent downpour resembling a storm having showered the region this morning, the first free practice session for the 24 Hours of Daytona was shunned, totally or partially, by certain teams. The two ARX-05s from Acura Team Penske notably remained in the garage, as did the Oreca 07s from PR1/Mathiasen and Performance Tech, as well as the No. 84 Cadillac DPi-VR from JDC-Miller.

The best time of this session was signed by the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac of the Nasr-Derani-Curran trio, in 1'36"108. Two more DPi-VRs follow, namely the sister car of Albuqerque-Barbosa-Conway-Fittipaldi and the No. 85 of JDC-Miller led by Vautier-Goikhberg-DeFrancesco-Barrichello. In fourth place, we find the No. 24 Mazda RT55-P from Bomarito-Tincknell-Pla.

Eighth and best representative of the GTD: The No. 3 Lamborghini Huracan GT48 from Paul Miller Racing.

The second free practice session is scheduled for 19:30 p.m. French time.
