Michel Cosson died at the age of 89 this Saturday, June 11, 2022. The Supélec electronics graduate had chaired the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) for 12 years, between 1992 and 2003.
Michel Cosson had the courage to restore his letters of nobility to 24 Hours of Le Mans following the end of Group C and the World Sports Car Championship in 1992. By relaunching the GT category in the second half of the 1990s, but also by establishing relations with the United States to organize the American Le Mans Series, Michel Cosson is one of the most appreciated and respected leaders in the history of the ACO.
It was also under the presidency of Michel Cosson that the 1999 kilometers of Fuji, the first ACO endurance race organized in Japan, took place in 1000, and that Le Mans Classic was born in 2002. On the two-wheel side, he installed from 2000 the French Grand Prix Moto GP, whose success has never wavered.
To his family, loved ones and friends, AUTOhebdo sends its most sincere condolences.
