The documentary “The Death Race”, recounting the accident that occurred during the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1955, will be broadcast tomorrow at 20:40 p.m. on Arte. Initially scheduled for March 16, this film was canceled at the last minute due to current events in Japan.
This German documentary, produced in 2010 by Thomas Ammann and Simone Jost-Westendorf, brings together archive images, amateur documents, testimonies from former pilots and spectators to try to explain the reasons for this accident, which is among the heaviest in the history of automobile racing, with more than 80 victims to be deplored among the spectators present on June 11, 1955 in Sarthe.
