At Monza, the estimated gain of the soft tire supplied by Bridgestone is around four tenths of a second per lap, compared to the hard tire. However, the soft rubber proves more difficult to use when braking and reaccelerating, we are told in the paddock.
Drivers who qualified in Q3 and who will start on soft tires should stop around the fifteenth lap and complete the rest of the race on hard tires, a single-stop strategy therefore being the most coveted.
