While many feared the traffic for this first part of qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix, many drivers preferred to wait in the pits before hitting the track. Despite a big crash in Free Practice 3, Carlos Sainz was well in contention with his Ferrari. In soft tires, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) signed a 1:10.036 on his first lap, ahead of both Mercedes on medium tires. Five minutes from time, Lance stroll et Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Robert Kubica (Alfa Romeo), Mick Schumacher et Nikita mazepin (Haas) were in the red zone, but everything remained possible with 15 drivers in one second and a track improving significantly.

In these conditions, the times were panicking and the drivers were hampered in the last preparation lap. Trapped in last position in the queue, Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) found himself eliminated while Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) set the best time ahead of Sainz. Vettel, Kubica, Schumacher and Mazepin are also eliminated. Note that the two Haas drivers almost collided in the last corner…
