Rubens Barrichello, in very changeable weather conditions (intermittent showers), achieved the best time during the second phase of the qualifying session (1:34:455), ahead of Nelson Piquet and Adrian Sutil. Many drivers took advantage of a drying track to achieve a good time, others being trapped by coming out too late. Nick Heidfeld (11th), Fernando Alonso (12e) Kazuki Nakajima (13th), Jarno Trulli (14th) and Nico Rosberg (15th) are eliminated in Q2.
